Emory Softball Splits Twinbill vs. Berry College

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Junior shortstop Moira Sullivan collected three hits and two RBIs in leading the No. 15-ranked Emory softball team to a second-game win and a split of a doubleheader against Berry College Wednesday afternoon.  After Berry won the opening contest by an 8-6 score, the Eagles bounced back for a 7-4 triumph in the finale, raising their record to 26-4.  Berry is now 13-5.

Sullivan went 3-for-4 at the plate and knocked in her two runs with a double down the left line in the bottom of the sixth inning that closed out the team's scoring for the game. Sullivan also scored two runs. Senior Megan Light hit twice safely in as many trips to the plate and drove in two runs to aid in the win. Trailing by a 4-2 margin, the Eagles scored three times in the fourth and twice in the sixth in nailing down the victory.  Senior Lauren Gorodetsky scored a pair of runs and collected two hits while junior Micah Scharff contributed a pair of safeties to the team's 12-hit attack.  Freshman pitcher Amy Wray picked up the win after tossing three innings of shutout relief, allowing two hits and striking out two.  Freshman Brittany File earned the save, her second of the season.

Sullivan enjoyed a big first game with three hits while Light, sophomore Hannah Sendel and freshman Tara Fallahee all socked home runs. Sendel's round tripper, her ninth of the campaign, was two-run shot in the bottom of the third, while Fallahee followed with a solo shot that tied the game at 3-3.  The Vikings took the lead for good with a three-run fourth with a bases-loaded triple Rachel Bartoe the key blow. RBI singles by Bailey and Sullivan in the fourth and fifth frames, respectively, drew the Eagles to within 6-5, but the Vikings put up two unearned runs in the top of the seventh to take an 8-5 lead.  Light led off the seventh with her sixth homer of the campaign to keep Emory's hopes alive, but the Eagles couldn't generate any further runs.

Emory returns to action on Thursday (Mar. 20) when it hosts No. 7-ranked Virginia Wesleyan in a twinbill starting at 2:00 pm.
