Box Score Freshman third baseman Tara Fallahee enjoyed a big day at the plate in helping the No. 9-ranked Emory softball team to win over the University of Rochester at the University Athletic Association Tournament. The Eagles boosted their overall record to 24-2, 4-2 in UAA action, following a 10-5 triumph over the Yellowjackets.
Fallahee went 2-for-4 with five RBIs to spark the Eagles' offensive attack while senior Megan Light collected a pair of safeties while knocking in one run. Junior Micah Scharff and sophomore Cortney Sugihara each scored a pair of runs while finishing with one hit apiece.
Fallahee broke a 5-5 deadlock with a two-run homer, her second round tripper of the year, in the bottom of the third that scored Sugiahra, who led off the inning with a double. Fallahee later delivered a two-out, bases-loaded clearing double that pushed across the Eagles' final three runs of the contest.
Senior pitcher Amanda Kardys recorded her 16th win of the year in 17 decisions, tossing 4 2/3 innings of relief and allowing one run and four hits. It was her 52nd career victory in the circle, two shy of tying Kathy Gordon for the No. 4 spot on the school's all-time list in that category.
Emory, still in the hunt to defend its UAA crown, closes out the tourney with games on Saturday vs. Brandeis (10:00 am) and Case Western (12:30 pm).
