Box Score Emory University junior Jared Welch extended his hitting streak to 15 games, and sophomore Ben Hinojosa delivered eight strong innings on the mound, as the Eagles closed out their home season at Chappell Park with a 12-6 win over Oglethorpe University.
Emory fell behind 3-0 after half an inning, but battled back with a four-run bottom of the first inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Kevin O'Connor. The Eagles scored three more in the bottom of the second, taking a 7-3 lead on another two run single, this time by Jay Page.
Oglethorpe scored a pair of runs in the fourth to pull within two runs, but the Eagles scored a single run in the bottom of the inning, and four more in the top bottom of the fifth to secure the win.
Hinojosa pitched through eight innings, allowing five runs, three of which were earned, on six hits and five walks, while striking out four batters. He improved to 5-3 with the win, while Oglethorpe starter Cory Leff dropped to 1-7 with the loss.
Welch ended the game one-for-two with two runs, an RBI and three walks. Brandon Hannon added a two-for-three day with three runs, three RBIs and three stolen bases, and O'Connor was four-for-five with two RBIs.
With the win, Emory now stands at 26-11 on the season, while Oglethorpe dropped to 12-28 on the season with the loss.
Emory will conclude the 2012 regular season against Division II North Georgia College and State University on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
