Box Score 2 The No. 5-ranked Emory softball team owns a nine-game winning streak after capturing a pair of home games on Sunday. The Eagles opened the day with a 10-0 five-inning triumph against Transylvania before closing out the weekend with a 3-2 victory over Huntingdon. Emory now stands 15-1 on the year.
Sophomore Megan Light highlighted the Eagles' offensive effort with a pair of hits and three RBIs in the decision over Transy. Senior left fielder Jessica Thomas also hit safely twice and drove in a run while sophomores Claire Bailey and Sophia Tarte each accounted for two RBIs. After putting up a pair of runs in its half of the first, Emory extended its lead to 6-0 when it crossed the plate four times in the bottom of the fourth with Bailey doubling in two runs while Tarte and Light each knocked a runner with two-base hits. Emory tacked on four more runs in the third, the first coming on a sacrifice fly by Tarte. With two out, Light singled in sophomore Jamie Dodich while Thomas followed with a double that scored Micah Scharff. Sophomore pitcher Lena Brottman made the most of the offensive support, hurling all five innings and allowing six hits while striking out five in raising her record to 5-0.
In the finale, Emory received two hits apiece from freshman shortstop Brooke Healey and sophomore Lauren Gorodetsky with Healey scoring twice to help secure the victory. Emory was hitless through the first three innings before scoring twice in the bottom of the fourth. The Eagles added what proved to be an important run in the sixth when Healey doubled with one out and then coming around to score when Gorodetskey socked a double. The Hawks threatened in their half of the seventh, scoring twice and having the tying run on with two out. However, senior pitcher Bridget Holloway got out of the jam to register her eighth win in nine decisions, allowing eight hits and striking out two. In 55 2/3 innings of work this season, Holloway has fanned 31 opposing batters while issuing just four walks. Her 51 career wins ranks fourth all-time at Emory.
