Emory Softball Posts Senior Day Sweep Of LaGrange

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The No. 4-ranked Emory softball team kept its home record unblemished on Sunday afternoon, recording a Senior Day sweep of a doubleheader against LaGrange College.   The Eagles raised their overall record to 25-3, 14-0 at home, following 5-0 and 10-0 (5 inn.) victories over the Panthers who slipped to 6-18.

Senior pitcher Bridget Holloway racked up her 13th victory in 14 decisions in the opener, tossing a complete-game two hitter that saw her strikeout five while not allowing any walks.  Senior catcher Jessica Boni, one of four seniors who were recognized for their contributions to the Emory program, picked up a pair of hits as did freshman Moira Sullivan, who made her season debut.   Emory scored four times in the bottom of the first with senior left fielder Jessica Thomas driving in the first two with a two-out single.  Boni then singled Thomas home and later scored herself when Sullivan doubled on a 3-2 pitch.    Emory accounted for the game's final score in the next frame when a ground out by sophomore Sophia Tarte pushed freshman Micah Scharff across the plate.

In the finale, the Eagles pounded out 10 hits against three LaGrange pitchers in chalking up its sixth contest of 10 or more runs this season.   Boni hit safely twice and socked a three-run homer, her sixth round tripper of the season, that keyed a five-run first inning.   Sophomore center fielder Lauren Gorodetsky  came through with a pair of hits while scoring twice and picking up a pair of RBIs with a triple in the second inning that scored Sullivan and freshman Brooke Healey.  Emory closed out its offensive production in the fourth inning when sophomore Claire Bailey produced a two-run single.   Senior Jaclyn Jacobi earned her first win of the year in the circle,  throwing two innings, allowing two hits while fanning one.  Emory used a total of four hurlers, with sophomores Amanda Kardys and Lena Brottman and junior Jamie Melson all seeing one inning of action.

Emory returns to action on Friday (Mar. 30) when it hosts Piedmont College in a twin bill starting at 2:00 p.m.
