Box Score Junior Alex Greven and sophomore Jake Davis combined for 47 points in helping the Emory men's basketball team to a win at Case Western Reserve Sunday afternoon. The No. 18-ranked Eagles raised their overall record to 19-5, 8-5 in the University Athletic Association following a decisive 105-71 decision over the Spartans who fell to 10-14 overall, 2-11 in the league.
Emory ended the game shooting 52 percent (38-of-73) from the floor including a keen 44 percent (11-of-25) from three-point range. The Eagles' 11 triples enabled them set a school seasonal record with 224 three-point field goals, bettering the previous standard of 219 set by the 2010-11 squad. Case connected on 44 pecent (28-of-64) of its field goal tries while sinking five-of-14 from beyond the arc. Emory finished with a slim 40-38 edge on the glass and was led in that department by junior Michael Friedberg's 11 boards, his fourth double-figure of the season in that category.
The 6-foot-3 Greven posted a game-high 26 points, knocking down nine-of-15 from the floor including four-of-eight from three-point range. It was his second straight and fourth effort of the campaign of 20 or more points this year. Davis chipped in 21 points, 12 coming in the second half, converting seven-of-10 of his field goal attempts and all six of his free throw tries en route to his 10th performance of 20 or more points this season. Senior guard Austin Claunch contributed 19 points, converting nine-of-15 from the field, and dished out nine assists while coming up with four steals. Freidberg rounded out the squad's double-figure scorers with 11 points and came up with three blocked shots, extending his streak to 18 games with at least one rejection.
With Greven scoring 18 points and Claunch 15 points, Emory raced out to a 55-33 lead at halftime. The Eagles set the tone early, sinking 11 of their first 15 field goal attempts in taking a 25-6 lead with 13:17 left in the first half. Greven scored 11 points during that blitz while Davis contributed in seven points. After a 12-4 Case spurt drew it to with 11 points, the Emory rattled off seven straight points to build its lead back to 36-18, with just under nine minutes left. A Claunch floater kept Emory's advantage at 18 points before the Spartans scored six unanswered points to cut their deficit to 12 points. But a 15-5 charge by Emory, with Greven picking up seven points, pushed its lead to 53-31 with 52 second left in the stanza with the Eagles eventually taking the 22-point cushion into halftime. Emory connected on 59 percent (23-of-39) of its field goal attempts during the opening 20 minutes of action compared to CWRU's 40 percent (12-of-30). Greven hit seven-of-12 field goal opportunities to spark the Emory attack while Claunch was successful on six-of-nine from the floor including three-of-four from beyond the arc.

Emory returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 25) when it closes out the regular season at Rochester in a 4:00 p.m. start.
