Box Score Emory University junior Jake Davis (Cincinnati, OH) and senior Misha Jackson (Atlanta) have been selected as the University Athletic Association Men's and Women's Basketball Players of the Week, respectively, following their efforts in helping their squads to a pair of victories.
The 6-foot-5 Davis was tabbed as Co-Player of the Week with Rochester's Nate Vernon after averaging team-highs in both points (21.0 ppg) and rebounds (7.5 rpg) as the Eagles posted wins over Huntingdon College and the University of the Ozarks. Davis tied for game scoring honors with 21 points, sinking nine-of-12 from the floor and three-of-four from the charity stripe, in the team's season-opening 98-70 decision over Huntingdon. The following day, he converted eight-of-16 of his field goal tries, including three three-point field goals, and grabbed eight rebounds in a 90-80 triumph over Ozarks. In the two games, he shot 60.7 percent (17-of-28) from the floor. His scoring efforts raised his streak to 27 straight contests with 10 or more points. It is the third time in his career that he has been tabbed as the UAA Player of the Week.
The 5-foot-11 Jackson averaged 17.5 points and 17.0 rebounds as Emory defeated Spelman College and Piedmont College during the Emory Tipoff Classic. Jackson poured in a team-high 19 points, hitting seven-of-13 from the floor and five-of-seven from the charity stripe, and pulled down a career-best 17 rebounds in a 94-37 trouncing of Spelman. The following night, she tallied 16 points, second high on the squad, and matched her rebound total from the previous contest as the Eagles topped Piedmont by a 72-54 margin. Her 17 boards in each game tied the 10th-highest individual game total in school history. In the two games, she shot 50 percent (13-of-26) from the floor and 75 percent (9-of-12) from the foul line. Her 34 boards upped her career total to 402, good for 18th place on the school's all-time rebounding list.
Both the Emory men's and women's teams return to action on Nov. 20 with the men opening the home portion of its schedule vs. Berry while the women play at LaGrange College.
