The Emory volleyball team ran its win streak 10 matches Friday evening as it recorded a pair of wins against West Coast competition. The Eagles opened the evening with a 3-0 decision (25-18, 25-16, 25-19) over Claremont-Mudd Scripps before registering a 3-0 verdict (25-12, 25-23, 25-21) over Pomona-Pitzer. The two triumphs boosted the No. 4-ranked Eagles record to 11-1. Both matches were played on the campus of Cal Lutheran.
Junior middle Alex Duhl went on an offensive tear against CMS, registering 11 kills, tying her second-highest career total, with no errors in 15 attempts. Her .733 attack percentage was the 10th-highest match effort in school history. Senior Amelia McCall topped all players with 14 terminations while senior Jessica McAlvany and junior Breanah Bourque totaled nine and seven, respectively. Senior setter Natalie Schonefeld turned in a strong all-around effort with 37 assists, a season-high 16 digs and four block assists. Emory finished the contest with a .315 hitting percentage (50-11—124) while coming through with another solid defensive outing, hold CMS to just .084 percent (28-18—199). The Eagles held a 73-63 edge in digs and finished with a 10.5-4.0 bulge in total blocks.
In the nightcap, all 19 players who dressed got into the match with freshman Kate Bowman topping the squad with 11 kills and classmate Cami Silverman chalking up seven terminations. Sophomore Molly Landers totaled a team-best 12 digs while freshman Leah Jacobs helped the defensive effort with five block assists. Emory hit .193 (44-18—135) for the match and held the Sagehens to .000 (21-21-111), the seventh time in the last eight matches that it had limited an opponent to a hitting percentage of .100 or less. The Eagles compiled a 65-57 margin in digs and held a 12.5-10 advantage in digs.
Emory returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 17) when it plays Chapman University and No. 16 Cal Lutheran.
