Box Score 2 Emory freshman pinch hitter Catherine Norman's ground out
RBI in the eighth inning scored Dana Goodenough with go-ahead run
and gave the Eagles 5-4 victory over LaGrange College in the first
contest of a double header on Tuesday. The win was Emory's
12th straight and raised its overall record to 39-2-1
while the Panthers slipped to 20-16.
Emory finished with 15 hits and was led by junior catcher Jessica
Boni and senior left fielder Brittany Boeshore, each of whom picked
up three safeties. Freshman Megan Light collected a pair of
RBIs while Goodenough hit safely twice and scored a pair of
runs. Freshman pitcher Lena Brottman, who started the game,
re-entered the contest in a relief role and picked up the win, her
17th of the year, tossing 1 1/3 innings in her second
stint after tossing two innings in a starting capacity.
Emory jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first after a single by Light
scored freshman Claire Bailey who opened the game with a
walk. The Eagles put up another run in the second when
Goodenough scampered across the plate following a single by
Boeshore. Emory added to its advantage the following
frame when Boni singled with one out and, when following a fly out,
she advanced to second when Goodenough singled. Senior Nikki
Perez drove in the run with a single. After LaGrange
countered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning, Emory
upped its advantage to 4-2 in the fourth when a sacrifice fly by
Light, her 59th RBI of the year, scored Bailey.
LaGrange crept back to within one run in the bottom half of
the frame by scoring an unearned run. The Panthers knotted
the game in their half of the seventh when they generated a two-out
rally that was culminated by an RBI single by Courtney Beshel.
