The No. 2-ranked Emory softball team won its eighth straight
game Thursday afternoon as it posted a victory in the first game of
a doubleheader at Piedmont College. The Eagles raised their
overall record to 35-2-1 following a 3-0 blanking of the Lions who
fell to 22-11.
Freshman pitcher Lena Brottman notched her 15th victory
in 16 decisions, allowing just four hits in registering her fourth
shutout of the season. Brottman, who recorded her
13th complete game in 18 starts, lowered her ERA to 1.28
and now has struck out 87 batters in 109 innings of work this
year.
Sophomore third baseman Dana Goodenough and freshman Lauren
Gorodetsky each collected a pair of hits and scored once in helping
the Eagles boost their road/neutral record to 22-1. Emory
jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when a two-out
single by freshman Megan Light scored senior Brittany
Boeshore. The Eagles added some distance in their half of the
sixth when a sacrifice fly by freshman Claire Bailey scored
Goodenough and a double by Boeshore pushed Gorodetsky across the
plate.
