Eagles Lose to Case Western Reserve at Chappell Park

The Emory University baseball team suffered a 22-9 loss at the hands of the Spartans of Case Western Reserve University, in the team's final game before the University Athletic Association (UAA) Tournament.

The 22 runs scored against Emory are the most allowed by an Eagles' team in the program's history.  Emory also committed seven errors as a team (having committed 13 in their previous 13 games), the third-most in the program's history.

Emory led 2-1 after one inning, following a wild pitch that scored Brandon Hannon, and a RBI single for Patrick Riebsame.  However, Case came back with six runs in the second (including a grand slam from all-American Chad Mullins) and four runs in the third, taking an 11-2 lead.

The Eagles scored two more in the bottom of the third on a two RBI single from Jonathan Reilly, but left the bases loaded in the frame.  The Spartans then scored seven more unanswered runs, taking a 18-4 lead over Emory.

Riebsame would triple in a run in the seventh, and Andrew DeYoung added a RBI groundout.  Emory scored three more in the ninth, trailing 22-6 to start the inning, including Mark Lindemann on a wild pitch and a two-run double for Daniel Iturrey.  However, it would not be enough for the Eagles.

Starter Chris Monaco took the loss for Emory, falling to 2-2 on the season.  Case starter A.J. Boshinski improved to 2-0 on the year with the win.

The loss was the second-straight for Emory, which now stands at 8-6, while Case raised its record to 6-3.  Emory will now head to the University Athletic Association (UAA) Tournament in Sanford, FL, opening play on Thursday against Brandeis University.
