Box Score 2 The No. 10-ranked Emory softball team closed out a memorable run
at the University Athletic Association Championships on Monday with
victories against the University of Rochester and Brandeis
University. The Eagles opened the day with a five-inning 9-0
triumph over Rochester before blasting their way to a five-inning
10-2 verdict over Brandeis in the final contest. Emory now
owns an overall record of 22-0 and finished off the Championships
with an 8-0. The Eagles were dominant over the eight games,
outscoring their opposition by an amazing 84-5 margin.
After clinching the UAA title on Sunday, the Eagles' offense
remained in high gear with freshman Megan Light and junior Jessica
Boni each picking up two hits in the Rochester game while freshman
second baseman Claire Bailey chalked up three RBIs, all coming on a
bases-loaded clearing double in the third inning. Freshman
Lena Brottman picked up the win in the circle, tossing all five
innings and allowing just three hits while striking out five.
Emory got off to a quick start when it put five runs up on the
board against Brandeis in the bottom of the first inning.
Light and Boeshore each produced two-run doubles in the uprising
that was helped by a pair of Brandeis errors. The Eagles
pushed their lead to 7-0 in the following inning when junior
Jessica Boni came through with a two-run single that scored Ellyn
Kocoloski and Meaghan Schultz. Emory added to its lead with
two runs in the third and another in the fourth inning.
Junior pitcher Bridget Holloway notched the win, her
11th in as many decisions, hurling all five innings and
fanning six.
Emory returns to action on Thursday (Mar. 17) when it plays a
doubleheader against Covenant College at Warner Park in
Chattanooga, Tenn.
