Box Score 2 The No. 10-ranked Emory softball team continued its blitz
through the University Athletic Association Tournament on Saturday
as it breezed to a pair of wins. The Eagles opened the day
with a five-inning, 12-0 victory over Brandeis before bulldozing
Case Western Reserve, 12-1, in five innings. Emory now stands
19-0 in overall play, 5-0 in the UAA. The Eagles have
outscored their conference foes by a 57-3 margin with three more
games to be played.
Emory spread out the offensive attack in the decision against the
Judges of Brandeis with nine players accounting for the
squad's 10 hits and seven coming through with RBIs. Juniors
Jessica Thomas and Jessica Boni each knocked in two runs as did
sophomore Dana Goodenough. The Eagles scored four times in
the top of the first with Goodenough knocking in one run with a
two-base hit and Boni driving home a pair with a two-bagger of her
own. After adding one run in the third, Emory put the game
out of reach with six runs in the third. Freshman pitcher
Lena Brottman notched the win, tossing the first four innings and
fanning four while allowing just two hits. Sophomore Jaclyn
Jacobi came on in the fifth and retired the side in order.
The Eagles had five players finish with two or more hits against
CWRU, led by freshman center fielder Ally Kersthold who went
4-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and one RBI.
Sophomore catcher Megan Fouse participated in the 19-hit attack by
picking up three safeties in four plate appearances and scoring
twice. Sophomore Ellyn Kocoloski blasted a grand slam that was the
big blow in a nine-run second inning and senior Brittany Boeshore
added a two-run homer in fourth inning that closed out
Emory's scoring. Freshman Amanda Kardys registered the
win on the mound, hurling all five innings and striking out three
and allowing just three hits.
Emory returns to action on Sunday (Mar. 13) when it battles
Washington University in a 10:00 a.m. start.
