The No. 10-ranked Emory softball team continued its torrid play
on the second day of the University Athletic Association
Tournament, posting a decisive win over the University of
Rochester. The Eagles raised their overall record to 17-0
(3-0 UAA)
following a five-inning, 11-0 decision over the
Yellowjackets.
Junior catcher Jessica Boni and sophomore third baseman Dana
Goodenough keyed the offensive attack by each registering a 3-for-3
day at the plate with Boni driving in four runs and Goodenough
totaling two RBIs. Junior left fielder Jessica Thomas also
chipped in two RBIs while coming up with two safeties.
Emory jumped out to an early lead with a three-run first inning,
keyed by a two-out double by Boni that knocked in two
runners. The Eagles tacked on two more runs the following
inning with Goodenough driving home Jen Haag with a single and
Lauren Gorodetsky crossing the plate on a wild pitch. A homer
by Thomas in the third inning extended Emory's lead to 6-0
before a five-run outburst in the fourth gave it the 11-0
cushion. Thomas doubled in a run while Boni socked a two-run
homer to highlight the inning.
Emory, which has outscored its first three conference foes by a
33-2 margin, finished the game with 10 hits while Rochester totaled
four.
Junior pitcher Bridget Holloway picked up the win, tossing four
innings and striking out four while giving up only three
hits. Freshman Amanda Kardys came on and pitched a scoreless
fifth inning.
The Eagles continue UAA Tournament action on Sunday (Mar. 12) when
they play Brandeis (10:00 a.m.) and Case Western (12:30 p.m.).
