The Emory softball team came out on the short end in the first
game of a doubleheader against Berry College Saturday afternoon,
dropping a tough 2-0 decision. The setback dropped the
Eagles' record to 14-9 while the Vikings upped their overall
mark to 13-10.
Emory outhit the host Berry squad by a 7-5 margin but left eight
runners on base as it was shutout for the third time this
season. Freshman first baseman Ellyn Kocoloski continued her
hot hitting with a pair of hits while sophomore catcher Jessica
Boni chipped in a pair of safeties. Sophomore pitcher Bridget
Holloway pitched well in the defeat, allowing five hits while
striking out three.
Berry got on the board in the bottom of the first when a two-out
double by Kristen Stoll knocked in Lindsey Campbell. The
Vikings added another run in the third frame on a RBI ground out by
Lindsey Lowe. Emory's best scoring chances came in the fourth
inning when it loaded the bases with two outs and in the fifth when
it had two runners aboard. However, Berry pitcher Caille
Shamoun got out of both jams.
Emory will play another game against Berry this afternoon
