Emory's Comeback Attempt Falls Short in 7-5 Loss to Denison

A late comeback attempt for the Eagles fell just short on Sunday at Chappell Park, as the Eagles dropped a 7-5 game against Denison University.

After entering the ninth inning trailing 7-2, the Eagles were able to load the bases with nobody out.  An RBI infield single for Gabe Shivers, a sacrifice fly for Ryan Jones, and a bases-loaded walk to Andrew Cohn brought three runs across for the Eagles and put the tying runs into scoring position with two outs, but junior Patrick Riebsame struck out looking to end the game.

The Eagles got their first runs of the game on a two RBI single from Cohn, which knotted the contest at 2-2 at the time.  However, the Big Red scored another run in the fifth and four in the seventh to build a 7-2 lead over the Eagles, before the Emory comeback began.

Cohn finished the day one-for-three with three RBIs, and is now batting .390 with 20 RBIs for Emory this season.

Denison senior Park Smith got the win in the game with seven strong innings pitched, allowing just one earned run and striking out seven to improve to 2-0 on the campaign.  Emory's Paul Schwendel took the loss, allowing three runs in five innings with five strikeouts, falling to 1-2 on the year.

Emory will be back in action on Tuesday, hosting DePauw University at 3:00 PM.
