11, Emory 3
The Emory softball team split a pair of Sunday home games at Cooper
Field, dropping an 11-3 decision to Mississippi College before
roaring back to claim a six-inning 9-1 triumph over Maryville in
the second contest. The Eagles of head coach Penny Siqueiors
now stand 3-5 overall.
Emory pounded out 12 hits in the win over the Scots of Maryville
while sophomore pitcher Bridget Holloway tossed all six innings to
earn the win on the mound, allowing seven hits and striking out
three. Five Emory players finished with two or
more hits including freshman first baseman Ellen Kocoloski who
slapped out three safeties while scoring twice. Freshman Dana
Goodenough picked up two hits and totaled four RBIs, two coming on
a triple that was the big blow in a five-run sixth inning when the
game was decided. Emory snapped a 1-1 tie in its half of the
fourth inning when it scored a pair of runs after two were
out. Goodenough socked a two-run single that scored Jessica
Boni and Michelle Geannakakes.
In the opener, Mississippi College roughed up three Emory pitchers
for 13 hits and scored in four of the five innings that were
played. The Choctaws led 1-0 after the first inning of action
and then put four on the board in the second frame with a three-run
triple by Morgan Harpole the key hit. Mississippi College
three more times in the top half of the fourth before Emory
responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning.
Freshman Stephanie Horn knocked in two of the runs with a
single. Sophomore Jen Haag and Kocoloski each came through
with a pair of hits in the contest.
