The Emory softball team dropped a pair of Sunday games at the Emory
Softball Invitational. The Eagles opened the day with a 3-0
setback against Birmingham Southern College before coming out on
the short end of a 2-1 decision to Greensboro College. Emory
now posts an overall record of 1-3.
BSC sophomore Ronni Ferris hurled an impressive complete-game win,
handcuffing the
Emory bats for the bulk of the morning, allowing just four hits
while striking out 12. The Panthers scored twice in the
opening inning when a two-out triple by Jenna Franks pushed home
two runs. BSC added another run in the third when Franks
delivered a two-out single. Emory senior Cassie Walsh picked
up a pair of safeties to pace the home team's offensive
attack. Sophomore pitcher Bridget Holloway received the
losing decision, surrendering eight hits while fanning three.
Emory jumped out to a 1-0 lead against Greensboro when Walsh came
through with a two-out single in the bottom of the first that
scored junior Nikki Perez. On the mound, Holloway kept the
Pride off the scoreboard until the sixth inning when the visitors
scored twice when back-to-back doubles by Rebecca Pink and Brittany
Parson knocked in runs. Emory threatened in the bottom of the
seventh sophomore Jessica Thomas was on third base with two
out. However, the Eagles were not able to tie the game.
The Eagles return to action next Saturday (Feb. 20) when the host
the first day of the Emory Classic.
