The Emory volleyball team saw its seven-match win streak come to
an end Friday night as it came out on the short end of a spirited
match to NAIA power Lee University. The Flames of Lee upped
their overall record to 19-0 after recording a 3-1 win (25-20,
25-19, 21-25, 25-17) over the Eagles who slipped to 17-3 on the
campaign.
Emory finished the evening hitting 11.2 percent (47-28—170)
compared to the visiting Flames' effort of 22.4 percent
(57-21—161). Lee posted an 80-69 edge in digs and a 9-4
margin in total blocks.
Sophomore Breanah Bourque led the Emory attack, tying for match
honors with 17 kills, her second-highest career total. Senior
Amelia McCall rounded out the double-digit kill performers with 15
and also totaled 13 digs, her seventh straight double-double.
Junior Natalie Schonefeld registered 39 assists and tied senior
Kelsey Krzyston for the team high with 14 digs. The setback
to the Flames ended a 21-match home win streak for the Eagles.
Emory returns to action the weekend of Oct. 16-17 when it competes
at the University Round Robin II hosted by Brandeis University.
