The Emory University women's tennis team put on a clinic during the first day of the ITA South Regional with seven Eagles advancing to the quarterfinals of the singles bracket while all four doubles teams pushed through the quarterfinals in the main. This year's South Regional is being hosted by Sewanee at the Farm & Forge Tennis Club in College Grove, Tennessee.

Seven of the final eight spots in the singles bracket will be represented by Blue & Gold as all seven advancing Eagles won both of their matches in straight sets.

Sophomore Visnja Gusavac, the draw's top overall seed, won her matches 6-0, 6-2, and 6-3. 6-0 while senior Yanire Marte, the draw's No. 2 seed, also dropped only five games on the day as she won 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-4.

Also advancing for the Eagles was Daniela Livson with 6-3, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-3 triumphs, Rachel Hernandez with 7-6 (2) and 7-6 (5), 6-2 wins, Holyn Karp following 6-0, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-1 verdicts and Sara Nenkov after 6-1, 6-0, 6-1, 7-6 (5) victories. Additionally, Audrey Pogue bounced teammate Devin Gilroy in the second round with a 6-4, 6-3 decision.

All nine Eagles competing in the tournament reached the Round of 16 in singles.

As the day shifted to the doubles competition, the Eagles continued to reign with all four doubles teams making a run to the quarterfinals. The Nenkov/Hernandez pairing did not drop a point across two matches to advance while Marte/Gilroy went a combined 16-1 to advance in their matches. Gusavac/Karp added an 8-1 win in the round of 16 following a first round bye and will be joined by Jessy Chen/Pogue with their wins over opponents from Rhodes and Methodist.

The ITA South Regional will continue from College Grove on Saturday.
