The Emory University women's tennis team wrapped up its first competition of the season on Saturday, earning six more wins across singles and doubles play at the UNG Fall Invitational before rain cancelled the remaining matches. The two-day tournament was being played at the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega.

The Eagles started the day with four doubles matches across the three flights with the headliner win coming in Flight A where sophomore Visnja Gusavac and sophomore Holyn Karp collected a 6-3 triumph in the finals, defeating UNG's Poppe/Stokusova. Emory added a win in the C flight third-lace match where junior Rachel Hernandez and freshman Sara Nenkov defeated Young Harris' Vivian  Gomez Lopez and Sophia Karoline Jensen by a 6-2 count.

Before the rain washed the remaining matches away, the Eagles went 4-1 in singles competition including two in the B flight that saw Hernandez and senior Yanire Marte advance to the finals. Hernandez downed Lenoir-Rhyne's Sandra Makbouli 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 and Marte topped UNG's Sofia Giraldo 6-3, 3-6, 12-10. In the main draw, Gusavac also reached the title match as she bested Lenoir-Rhyne's Nellie Wahlberg in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 and in the C draw, freshman Devin Gilroy added a straight set win 7-6 (4), 6-4 over UNG's Poppe.

The Eagles will now turn their attention to the ITA South Regional next weekend, Sept 25-27, at the Farm & Forge Tennis Club in College Grove, TN.
