The Emory University women's golf team began competition at the NCAA Championships on Tuesday, ending round one with a team total 293 (+5) to land in third.
It's a tight race at the end of day one as the Eagles are two strokes behind UAA foe Carnegie Mellon. The Tartans are leading the pack at 291 (+3) while Washington and Lee sits in second at 292 (+4). Fellow UAA program NYU sits three strokes behind Emory in fourth while host institution Claremont-Mudd-Scripps rounds out the top five at 297 (+9).
2025 NCAA Individual Champion
Carys Code is at the top of the leaderboard for the Eagles after 18 holes, shooting a 71 (-1) to land in a tie for fifth place. The junior shot four of her six birdies on the front nine along with five bogeys on the day.
Amanda Zheng and
Zimo Li sit two shots behind Code in a tie for 18
th as they both shot a 73 (+1) to start the tournament. Zheng posted three birdies and four bogeys while Li recorded four birdies, a bogey and a pair of double bogeys to reach the same round total.
Three shots behind the underclassmen duo is
Esther Jung who finished in a tie for 45
th at 76 (+4). The junior struggled on the front nine as she shot three birdies and a double bogey, but found her rhythm on the back nine as she made par on each hole apart from a birdie on the 12
th hole.
Rounding out the leaderboard for Emory is
Covi Yan who ended day one with a 78 (+6). She shot two birdies, four bogeys and a pair of double bogeys over the first 18 holes to find herself in 68
th place.
Emory will begin the second round tomorrow morning as Jung will be the first Eagle out at 10:50 a.m.
