#11 Women's Tennis Falls at #9 Carnegie Mellon, 4-3

The No. 11 ranked Emory University women's tennis team had a tough luck defeat Friday afternoon as the Eagles started their weekend in Pittsburgh, PA.

In the first of back-to-back matches against top 10 opponents, Emory was pushed to the final point but came up on the other end of a 4-3 decision to No. 9 ranked Carnegie Mellon University.

The Tartans started the afternoon between University Athletic Association foes with the doubles point with CMU claiming a 6-3 result on court one and a 7-6 (4) decision on court three to clinch the 1-0 advantage. The Eagles were able to avoid the doubles sweep on court two where senior Izzy Antanavicius and junior Yanire Marte posted a 6-4 line.

Emory turned in three consecutive wins to open singles competition with freshman Holyn Karp winning at the No. 6 position, 6-2, 6-0, followed by wins from Antanavicius on court three 6-0, 6-3 and senior Emily Kantrovitz at the No. 1 spot 7-5, 6-3.

Leading 3-1, Emory saw its lead fall with CMU decisions on courts two and four in straight sets to set up the decisive match point on court five but Emory's Rachel Hernandez was unable to pull off the win for the Eagles as she dropped a 3-6, 5-7 contest.

Emory looks to bounce back Saturday morning when the team takes on No. 10 Bowdoin College starting at 9:00 AM in Pittsburgh.
