#8 Women's Tennis Falls in UAA Semifinals to #2 WashU

The No. 8 ranked Emory University women's tennis team was dealt a 4-1 defeat to No. 2 ranked WashU Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the University Athletic Association Championships at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida.

With the defeat, the Eagles will conclude their trip to Florida with the UAA Third Place Match Sunday morning against No. 6 ranked Carnegie Mellon University at 8:30 AM.

In the semifinals against the Bears, doubles play saw the tandem of senior Izzy Antanavicius and junior Yanire Marte record a 6-2 win on court two but WashU would claim the point with 6-3 and 6-2 results on courts one and three.

Antanavicius secured the Eagles' point during the match in singles with her 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 line on court three. Despite her three-setter, the Bears notched straight set decisions against seniors Emily Kantrovitz (6-0, 6-4), Iris Berman (6-4, 7-6 (8)) and freshman Holyn Karp (7-5, 6-4) at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6 spots in the lineup to conclude the match.

When play was halted, both Marte and sophomore Rachel Hernandez were in the midst of thee setters of their own with Marte at 3-6, 6-3, 3-5 on court four and Hernandez at 3-6, 7-5, 0-2 on court five.
