Baseball Swept in Friday Doubleheader at UChicago

The Emory University baseball team opened its weekend in Chicago Friday afternoon by falling in both games of a doubleheader against the UChicago Maroons at J. Kyle Anderson Field.

Game 1: UChicago 10, Emory 0 (7 innings)

The Eagles offense was limited to two singles, two hit-by-pitches and a walk over seven innings as the Maroons won the opener by mercy rule.

Senior Adrien Armstrong and junior Zach Hanson both collected singles with Hanson adding a walk to lead the Emory bats.

Senior Josh Zuckerman struck out eight Maroons over his five innings of work as he fell to 3-3 on the mound. Zuckerman allowed two earned runs on five hits and three walks during the outing.

Game 2: UChicago 7, Emory 6

The Maroons continued the momentum in the second game by starting with a 3-0 lead before the Eagles pushed across their first runs of the game in the fourth with a Mario Borges RBI groundout followed by a Connor Tam run-scoring double.

Chicago added another run to its tally in the fifth but Emory was able to level the score at 4-4 in the sixth on a Cam Newell double to plate Ryan Roggin followed by a game-tying sac fly from Tam.

An inning later, Armstrong brought in the go-ahead run as he plated Jake Lawson with a fielder's choice. However, the lead was short-lived as Erik Rindner smacked his second home run of the game in the bottom of the frame to give the Maroons a 6-5 advantage.

Hanson notched the game-tying single in the eighth with his hit to center but in the bottom of the ninth, Chicago saw Michal Gladden record the walkoff double to give UC the Friday sweep.

Lawson registered a three-hit day in the contest to go along with a triple and stolen base while Tam and Newell both had multi-hit efforts.

The series will continue on Saturday, weather permitted, with game three scheduled to get underway at 3:00 PM ET.
