The Emory University baseball team fell in the weekend finale to No. 14 WashU Sunday afternoon at Irv Utz Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri.
The Eagles fell behind in the run-shortened affair with the Bears striking for three in the bottom of the first. Emory was able to erase the deficit however with freshman Ryan Roggin picking up a RBI groundout in the second before classmate Dalton Needle tied the score with his two-run home run to center in the fourth.
Soon after the Eagles evened the score, WashU regained the lead with a three-spot in the home half of the fourth with Chance Cromer driving a double down the right field line to score a pair.
Trailing by five runs entering the seventh, Emory cut the WashU lead back to three with junior Jonathan Lang adding a RBI groundout to plate classmate Zach Hanson and Needle blasting his second four-bagger of the afternoon with a solo shot to left.
With the score standing at 8-5, the Bears sent 11 batters to plate in the bottom of the seventh with seven coming around to score to push WashU towards the 15-5 run-rule victory.
The Eagles will look to bounce back next weekend with a road trip to Chicago, Illinois to face the Maroons of UChicago. Game one of the series is scheduled to start at 4:00 PM ET on Friday.
