The Emory softball team had a great afternoon at Cooper Field, winning both games of their Saturday doubleheader against UChicago to complete the series sweep of the Maroons.
In the second game of the doubleheader, senior outfielder
Ashley Chu became the program all-time hits leader, collecting her 231
st career run to surpass UAA and Emory Athletics Hall of Famer Megan Light's record of 230 hits. Â
Game 1: Emory 5, UChicago 4 (8 Innings)
The game began scoreless through two and a half innings as Emory found the board first in the home half of the third. The three-run frame began as junior catcher
Lillian Ware doubled down the left field line to score Chu before
Addison Kwong joined the party with an RBI single to score Ware, making it 2-0.
Ella Hoyle came up to the plate next, hitting an RBI single of her own to score Kwong, giving the Eagles the 3-0 advantage going into the fourth.
The Eagles added some insurance in the fourth as a sac fly from the junior scored sophomore
Rylie Ballog to bring the score to 4-0.
In the top of the fifth, the Maroons delivered a four-run frame to tie the game at 4-4, sending the game to extra innings as remaining two and a half innings went scoreless.
The Eagles walked it off in the bottom of the eighth on a bases-loaded fielder's choice from freshman

Zoe Horning scoring the game-winning run as the Eagles took the second game of the series, 5-4.
Junior
Lexi Bach had an incredible day out of the bullpen as she improved to 3-0 on the year. Bach worked 3.1 innings, allowing no runs on two hits with a strikeout to help the Eagles secure the win.
Game 2: Emory 4, UChicago 1
After Chu broke the all-time hits record with an infield single to start the bottom of the first, the senior advanced to second on a wild pitch and stole third. With Chu in scoring position, sophomore
Shivani Nangia hit an infield double to score Chu for the game's first run.
UChicago immediately responded in their half of the second, hitting a homer out to left field to tie the game at 1-1.
The game didn't stay tied for very long as
Shea Johnson answered for the Eagles in the bottom of the second, hitting an RBI single to score pinch runner
Radha Samuel and make it 2-1.
Going scoreless until the bottom of the fifth, the Eagles added another pair of runs to extend their lead as Hoyle's first career triple scored Kwong and Zerr to give the Eagles the three run lead.
Freshman
Sydney Thune delivered another great performance in relief, going for 4.1 innings with no runs on two hits and five strikeouts to hold off the Maroons. Senior
Mackenzie Duford picked up her second save of the season as she came on to record the final two outs when the Maroons saw the tying run reach base in the seventh.
With the Maroons unable to respond, the Eagles secured the series sweep as they took down the Maroons 4-1 to earn their 20
th win of the season and their 10
th win of conference play to lead the UAA.
The Eagles will take a short midseason break from conference play before heading to Montgomery, AL to take on Huntingdon in a mid-week doubleheader on April 22.
