The Emory women's golf team had a phenomenal start to the Savannah Harbor Invitational on Monday, ending the day in second place with a team total 286 (-6) going into the final round tomorrow.
Carnegie Mellon is leading the field at the end of day one as they shot a team total 278 (-16) in round one. Rounding out the top three is fellow UAA foe WashU with a 296 (+4) to sit in third.
Junior
Carys Code is at the top of the leaderboard going into day two as she shot a 69 (-4) to tie with Carnegie Mellon's Alyssa Lim and Emma Wong for the top spot. She had an outstanding round, recording six birdies on the day and two bogeys on the day.
One shot behind her is sophomore
Zimo Li who sits in fourth, shooting a 70 (-3) on day one. The second year had a consistent round as she put up a bogey-free front nine and shot four birdies on the round.
Following close behind her is freshman
Xinyi Zheng who shot a 71 (-2) to claim eighth place at the end of the first round. The newcomer made par on 12 of the 18 holes and recorded four birdies on the day.
Behind her is sophomore
Covi Yan who sits in 35
th after shooting a 76 (+3) on day one. She started off rough with a bogey-bogey on holes two and three but found her footing and made par on 11 holes along with recording two birdies on five and nine.
Up next on the leaderboard is freshman independent
Jida Chiravachredej who shot a 78 (+5) on the day. She had a solid front nine aside from a bogey-bogey on four and five, but lost that rhythm as she recorded four bogeys and a birdie on the back nine.
Rounding out round one for the Eagles is junior
Derica Chiu as she shot an 80 (+7) on the day to find herself in 65
th place. She made par on her first three holes before recording a bogey-bogey on four and five along with a pair of double bogeys on seven and eight, but improved on the back nine as she recorded two birdies and three bogeys.
The Eagles will be back on the course tomorrow for round two with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.
