Baseball Evens Piedmont Series with 6-5 Walkoff Win at Home

The Emory Baseball team evened their three-game series against Piedmont Saturday afternoon, beating the Lions 6-5 as senior Zach Hanson delivered his third home walkoff of the season in Chappell Park.

Senior Adam Geller had a dominant day on the mound, going 7.2 innings and spinning five strikeouts, six hits and two errors on the day.

The second game in this series went scoreless through the first two innings, but Piedmont found the scoreboard first with a leadoff homer at the top of the third. The Eagles mustered up a strong response in their half of the inning as Jonathan Lang singled up the middle to bring Jake Lawson and Connor Tam home to give the Eagles the 2-1 lead.

The Lions would even the score in the fourth off an RBI double to left center, going into two scoreless innings before Lang scored on a catcher's error in the home half of the sixth to bring the score to 3-2.

Emory's defense held Piedmont to only four at bats in the top of the seventh before senior Adrien Armstrong reached on a first baseman error, bringing Lawson and Tam home once again to make it 5-2 at the end of the seventh.

Piedmont would respond in their half of the eighth, plating two runs off a left field single to come within one run of the lead before tying it at 5-5 in the ninth off a ground out RBI.

With an opportunity to respond, the Eagles answered as Tam doubled to left center to start the inning. Lawson followed that with a sac bunt to get Tam within 90 feet of the win, and Hanson delivered the walkoff single to bring Tam home and give the Eagles the 6-5 win at home.

The Eagles will look to win the series tomorrow as they head back up to Demorest, GA for game three, with first pitch set for 2:00 p.m.
