The Eagles got two home wins under their belt Friday afternoon, shutting out Pfeiffer 2-0 and taking down Lewis & Clark College 3-2 on the first day of the Eagles Elite Invitational.
Game 1: Emory 2, Pfeiffer 0
The Eagles got on the board early as junior Ellie Zerr singled to left field to bring senior Ashley Chu in, making it 1-0 to start the game.
The matchup went scoreless until the Eagles plated their second run in the bottom of the fifth on a bases-loaded walk from senior Ella Hoyle to bring in pinch runner Gabriela Oceguera.
Freshman pitcher Sydney Thune had a stellar afternoon in the circle, throwing a complete game with eight strikeouts and only allowing four hits in her outing.
Game 2: Emory 3, Lewis & Clark 2
The first two innings went scoreless until the Eagles plated all three runs scored in the bottom of the third. The party began with sophomore Rylie Ballog scoring on a wild pitch to make it 1-0, with junior Ella Janish joining in as her double to left field brought Zerr and Lillian Ware in for a pair of unearned runs, bringing the score to 3-0 at the end of the inning.
The fourth would go scoreless on both ends before the River Otters responded with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth, scoring on an RBI single and a bases-loaded hit by pitch to bring the score to 3-2.
The Eagles defense would hold off the River Otters as they held them to three at bats in the final two innings, defeating Lewis & Clark 3-2 to win their first two games of the Eagles Elite Invitational.
Greta Uhlmann and Lexi Bach shut down Lewis & Clark in the contest with Uhlman earning the win after allowing two runs in 4.1 innings and Bach picking up the save with 2.2 hitless frames.
The Eagles will be back at Cooper Field for the second day of the Eagles Elite Invitational tomorrow afternoon, facing Pfeiffer at 12:00 p.m. and Lewis & Clark at 2:00 p.m.
