The Eagles had a split Saturday to cap off the 2026 Eagles Elite Invitational, dominating Pfeiffer in a 9-5 win but falling to Lewis & Clark 4-2 in eight innings.
Game 1: Emory 9, Pfeiffer 5
The rematch started with a bang as the Falcons plated a run on the third at bat of the game to start the game 1-0. On the next at bat, Pfeiffer's Kirstyn Herman drove in a three-run homer to left center to increase the lead to 4-0.
The Eagles had a tall order as they headed to the plate, but they delivered as an
Ella Janish single brought senior
Ashley Chu home to get the Eagles on the board. Sophomore
Megan Sutton joined in on the fun as she hit a single of her own out to center field, bringing in
Lillian Ware to bring the score to 4-2. Just two runs shy of the lead, senior infielder
Ella Hoyle smashed a three-run homer of her own out to left center, putting the Eagles out in front 5-4.
With a one-run lead, the Eagles weren't done yet as Chu singled to bring in sophomores
Shea Johnson and
Addison Kwong to cap off Emory's seven-run frame.
The game would then go scoreless until the Eagles half of the fifth where an
Allie Stevenson double helped pinch runner
Gabriela Oceguera make it 8-4. During the following at bat, Kwong got a double of her own to bring Stevenson in to give Emory a five-run advantage.
In the top of the sixth, the Falcons plated their fifth run off a ground out to third, bringing the score to 9-5 going into the bottom of the sixth.
The Eagles defense held the Falcons to three at bats in the top of the seventh, securing the win to complete the weekend sweep of Pfeiffer.
Sophomore
Lauryn Selvaraj spun seven innings out of the ben after coming into relief in the first inning. The second-year allowed just one run on five hits to get her first win of the year.
Game 2: Lewis & Clark 4, Emory 2 (8 innings)
The first three innings went scoreless to start the second matchup of the day, with the River Otters breaking the scoreless draught with a run in their half of the fourth.
The Eagles immediately responded when they met the plate in the fourth with Kwong racing around the bases for an inside the park home run to bring in
Olivia Kohler and give the Eagles the 2-1 lead.
In the top of the sixth, the River Otters responded with a sac fly to tie it at 2-2. Neither team found the go-ahead run in regulation as the game headed to extra innings.
Lewis & Clark broke the tie in their half of the eighth, forcing the Eagles to play catchup in the bottom half. The Eagles tried to respond as Janish and Hoyle got on base but couldn't get the tying runs across home plate as they fell to the River Otters 4-2 to end the weekend.
Senior
Mackenzie Duford spent all eight innings in the circle for the Eagles, allowing three earned runs on six hits.
The Eagles will be on the road next weekend as they begin conference play with a trio of games against Brandeis, with the first game of the series starting on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
