The No. 5 ranked Emory University women's tennis team was upended in the first of its three matches during the team's spring break trip Wednesday morning, falling to No. 2 ranked WashU, 5-2, on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

The Bears jumped out to the early lead with a sweep in doubles action. Seniors Emily Kantrovitz and Iris Berman played to a 4-6 result on court one while WashU collected 6-2 decisions on both remaining courts.

Emory's senior duo highlighted the singles portion of the match with both players representing the team's wins. Berman earned a 7-5, 7-5 victory on court two and Kantrovitz battled to a three-set win on court one 6-1, 2-6, 7-5.

Despite the wins on the top two courts, the Bears would pull through on the four remaining courts to capture the match win. Senior Izzy Antanavicius and sophomore Rachel Hernandez both fought to three-set results in their matches on courts three and six but the Bears claimed wins with 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 and 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 final lines.

Emory will look to rebound on Friday with a visit to SCAD-Savannah before closing out its trip with a rematch against No. 4 Wesleyan on Saturday.
