Women's Golf Finishes Tied for Fifth at Space Coast Classic; Li Ties for First Amongst Division I Field

The Emory women's golf team wrapped up play at the Space Coast Classic Sunday afternoon in a rainy third round that led to an hour-long weather delay. The Eagles finished in a tie for fifth place with Lipscomb, recording a final score of 889 (+25) over the three rounds in a crowded field of Division I programs.

Sophomore Zimo Li led the Eagles as she claimed the individual title in a three-way tie with Seton Hall's Marta Aguilar and Dartmouth's Olivia Cong, shooting 210 (-6) through three rounds. The second year had an incredible showing despite the adverse weather conditions, making par on 14 of the 18 holes to shoot a 70 (-2) in her final round. Li also had a bogey-free back nine and shot three birdies across the round.

Freshman Xinyi Zheng also found a spot in the top 20 with a score of 223 (+7) after three rounds. Zheng had a consistent front nine, only shooting two bogeys, while she had a more turbulent back nine with three bogeys and a double bogey to end with a 79 (+7) for the final round.

Behind her was junior Carys Code who shot a 228 (+12) on the tournament to land in 35th place. Things started rough for the third year as she shot a double bogey on the second hole, but she ended the front nine strong with a birdie on the ninth hole. Code had a steady back nine as well as she made par on six of the nine holes to shoot a 79 (+7) in her last round of the weekend.

Esther Jung finished next for the Eagles, coming in 46th place with a 232 (+16) on the weekend. The junior had a chaotic front nine as she shot six bogeys, but delivered a more consistent performance on the back nine as she only shot one bogey and made par on the other eight holes to put up a 79 (+7) in her final round.

Behind Jung was junior Derica Chiu, who shot a 238 (+22) to finish in 58th place. She had a consistent front nine, making par on every hole apart from two bogeys. The back nine was a different story for the junior as she she shot four bogeys and a double bogey on 18 to shoot an 80 (+8) in the last round.

Finishing things off for the Eagles was sophomore Covi Yan, finishing in 60th place with a 240 (+23) for the tournament. The second year shot two bogeys and three double bogeys on the front nine, but flipped that on the back nine as she shot three bogeys, two double bogeys and a birdie to card an 88 (+16) to end the third round.

The Eagles will be back on the course in a few weeks as they head south for the Savannah Harbor Invitational in Savannah, GA.
