Emory Baseball Trounces Spalding, 12-4, to Open Alabama Weekend

The Emory University baseball team began its weekend in Alabama on a high note Friday afternoon as the Eagles trounced Spalding University, 12-4, in the first of three games at Huntingdon College in Montgomery.

Junior Aidan Conley had a monster day at the plate, going 4-for-6 with four doubles and two RBI. Senior Adrien Armstrong drove in a team-leading three runs with his first career home run and junior Zach Hanson continued to excel at the plate with two more extra base hits, recording a double and triple while driving in one.

Armstrong pushed the Eagles ahead with his three-run blast in the second inning, but Spalding responded in its half of the frame, taking advantage of two Emory errors to plate four runs to reclaim the lead.

From there, the Eagles' offense continued to click scoring in six of their final seven turns at the dish including five runs over the final two innings. Hanson had the go-ahead double in the fourth, scoring classmate Jake Lawson with a double to right center. Juniors Jonathan Lang and Corey Goldstick both recorded run-producing singles in the sixth and seventh innings before freshman Dalton Needle and Conley combined to drive home three runs with their doubles in the late stages.

After seeing four runs cross home plate in the second, Emory's hurlers stifled the Golden Eagles over the remaining seven frames. Freshman Jackson Clark faced two over the minimum in his three hitless relief innings to collect his first collegiate win and juniors Nick Stellabotte and Mihir Patel sent down six of the seven batters they faced to clinch the win.

Emory and Spalding are set to face off again at Neal Posey Field Saturday afternoon with first pitch pushed up to 12:00 PM CT / 1:00 PM ET.
