Two Emory Eagles were chosen as University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week Monday afternoon for their performances during the week of February 2-8.
Senior Jair Knight had a stellar weekend for men's basketball as the No. 7 Eagles collected a pair of overtime wins at home against No. 20 WashU and No. 1 Chicago. Knight averaged 25.5 points across the two games including a career-high 36 points against the top-ranked Maroons Sunday afternoon. Knight shot 21-for-38 from the field while adding 17 rebounds, three assists and two steals across the weekend. With his Sunday scoring output, Knight moved into fourth place on the program's all-time scoring list 1,634 points.
Sophomore Rachel Hernandez had a dominating weekend for the No. 4 ranked women's tennis team as the Eagles posted a pair of 7-0 decisions against Division II Young Harris and Berry to open the spring schedule at home. Hernandez did not drop a game across her two singles wins, earning 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 6 singles vs. YHC on Saturday and at No. 4 singles vs. Berry on Sunday. Hernandez added two wins in doubles as well, teaming with junior Yanire Marte to win 6-4 at No. 3 on Saturday before the duo won 6-0 at the No. 3 spot on Sunday.
