Men's Soccer Wins Fourth Straight; Rallies to Down Brandeis, 3-1

The Emory University men's soccer team took over sole possession of the University Athletic Association standings with a 3-1 decision over visiting Brandeis University as the game was pushed back to Sunday following Hurricane Isaias hitting the Atlanta area earlier on the weekend.

Three second half goals proved to be the difference as the Eagles took advantage of the Judges playing with a man down over the final 29 minutes of the contest. With the win, Emory wins its fourth straight game to improve to 9-1-2 on the season and 2-0 inside UAA action while Brandeis slips to 3-6-2 and 0-2 in conference play.

An evenly played first half saw the Judges strike first as Jack Rossiter headed in a Maddox Yu corner kick in the 38th minute. Both teams recorded eight shots in the half with the Judges leading 2-0 in shots on goal.

In the second half, the Eagles started to apply pressure and looked to have found the equalizer in the 62nd minute with a Ewen Robertson header to the right post. However, Brandeis' Danny Holzer was charged with denying a goal-scoring opportunity and was sent off the pitch with a red card.

Senior Logan Steren missed wide left on the penalty kick chance but the Eagles were quick to pick up their captain as sophomore Justin Buchwalter netted the game-tying goal 75 seconds later with a long-ranging boot for his first goal as a member of the Eagles.

In the 76th minute, Steren put Emory on top with his sixth goal of the season as he redirected a Maximo Cisneros attempt.

Robertson provided the final touches on the 3-1 win as he slotted a shot past the Judges' keeper following a perfectly timed pass over the backline by Nick Carrano.

The Eagles close out the non-conference slate Tuesday night at Covenant before traveling to NYU on Saturday.
