Loucopoulos' Career Night Leads #19 Women's Basketball Past CWRU, 90-46

The #19 ranked Emory women's basketball team put on a show in the WPEC Friday night as they took down UAA foe Case Western Reserve, 90-46, in Atlanta.

The dominant win was highlighted by a 30-piece game from junior Alexandra Loucopoulos as she set a new career high and a hot third quarter from classmate Emma Starr, scoring 10 points to earn her career high. The Eagles duo were among four Emory players to reach double digits in the 44-point drubbing.

The Eagles came out the gate strong thanks to a seven-point scoring run from Loucopoulos. The Spartans began closing in at the 2:43 mark thanks to a pull up three from Mya Hartjes, but Starr and Loucopoulos kept the Eagles rolling as the first quarter ended with Emory leading 18-13

As the second quarter began, Loucopoulos continued to steamroll the Spartans as she opened the quarter, going on a five-point scoring run to make it 23-13. A three from freshman Tatum Olson and a nice layup from senior Lily Kennedy kept the Eagles on a hot streak despite the Spartans efforts to close the lead, ultimately ending the half on a Katherine Martini layup to put the Eagles up by 20 points. Loucopoulos had a new career-best scoring output in the half as she single-handily outscored the visitors, 23-21.

It was raining threes as play continued in the third quarter as the Eagles started things off with a pair of long-range conversions from Olson and freshman Mia Strazza to bring the score to 47-23. Starr, Olson and newcomer Lauren Walsh kept the trend going as they all netted three pointers in less than a minute to extend the lead, with Starr closing out the third quarter with a pull up jumper to bring the score to 64-30.

The Eagles kept the hot streak alive with a four-point run to start the final quarter. A pair of layups from senior Chloe Kreusser and yet another three pointer from Loucopoulos brought the score to 78-37 as the clock ran down, with a three pointer from sophomore Sydney Cummings and a layup from freshman Savannah Seawell sealing the deal for the Eagles as they earned their second conference win of the season, beating the Spartans comfortably.

With Sunday's game postponed, the Eagles will hit the road again next weekend to take on #15 WashU and #17 UChicago.
