#9 Women's Basketball Upended at Brandeis, 62-56

The No. 9 ranked Emory University women's basketball team was dealt its first conference loss of the season Friday night, falling on the road to Brandeis University, 62-56, at Red Auerbach Arena in Waltham, Mass.

The Eagles were led by freshman standout Tatum Olson who tied a season-high with 23 points to go along with three rebounds and three steals. Senior Lily Kennedy joined her in double figures with 10 points off the bench.

Kennedy paced the visitors in the opening half where she recorded eight of her 10 points to lead the team as the Eagles went into the halftime break level with the Judges at 25-25.

Olson stole the show in the third quarter as she poured in 18 of her game-high 23 points in the period as the Eagles outscored Brandeis 26-18. Olson sank two of her four triples on the evening in the quarter and did not miss a shot, converting on all six of her attempts while adding 3-for-4 from the line.

Junior Caroline Connelly was successful on a pair of free throws to open the fourth quarter, giving Emory its largest lead of the game at 53-43. However, an untimely cold spell for the Eagles proved to be costly as the Judges held Emory off the scoreboard for over nine minutes of game play. Brandeis ripped off 17 unanswered points during the stretch to take a 60-53 advantage. Junior Emma Starr halted the run with long three-pointer with 8.6 seconds remaining but the Judges' Abby Kennedy knocked down a pair of free throws following the inbound to clinch the win.

Emory looks to rebound Sunday afternoon when the Eagles visit top-ranked New York University. Tip off is slated for 12:00 PM.
