#2 Men's Soccer Extends Win Streak with 4-0 Victory at Piedmont; Cubeddu Sets Shots Record

The No. 2 ranked Emory University men's soccer team won its ninth consecutive game on Wednesday as the Eagles took care of business at in-state foe Piedmont University, 4-0, in Demorest, Georgia.

Another stellar performance in all facets from the Greinerball contingent as Emory improved to 9-0 – the team's best start to a season during the Cory Greiner era as well as the best start of a season since the 2010 squad began its campaign 11-0-1 with nine straight victories.

The Eagles ended the night with 41 shots compared to the Lions' three. It was one shy of Emory's season-high of 42 which came on September 7th against Wisconsin Lutheran as well as the fourth-most in a single-game in program history. The 2025 unit is the first Emory team in men's soccer history to record 40 or more shots in a game multiple times in a season.

Emory came out of the gates with a game plan to attack aggressively, logging double digit shot attempts within the opening 20 minutes of the evening.

The heavy offensive pressure finally broke through in the 24th minute when Adeyemi Oni scored the Eagles' first goal of the night on the team's 14th chance. Senior Josh Grand sent a corner kick into play, finding the head of classmate Michael Constant where he redirected it to the far post where Oni one-timed a shot in from close range. The goal was Oni's fourth of the season.

Eight minutes later, Nick Carrano scored his second marker of the season with a low ranging shot past the diving keeper from straight on and 25 yards out with picking up his second assist of the night.

Graduate student Ignacio Cubeddu concluded the first half scoring in the 42nd minute when he used nifty footwork to spin around a Piedmont defender before tucking a shot into the near-side netting. The goal was Cubeddu's sixth of the season, moving him into a tie for the team lead.

Junior Lorenzo Avalos added to the scoring ledger early in the second half with the Eagles' fourth and final tally of the night in the 49th minute. A nice through ball pass from Cubeddu led to Avalos getting past the Lions' defense and ripping a cross-field shot to the right post for his second goal of the year.

Cubeddu finished the night with 11 of the team's 41 shots, etching his name into the Emory record books for most individual attempts in a single game. He becomes only the second player in team history to reach double digit shot attempts and eclipsed Matthew Levine's previous record of 10 from October 15, 2001.

The Eagles will look to extend their winning streak to double digits on Saturday when Emory returns home to face Sewanee. Kickoff at the WoodPEC is set for 6:30 PM.
