#2 Men's Soccer Notches 10th Consecutive Win Behind Cubeddu's Record-Tying Performance

Graduate student Ignacio Cubeddu was a one-man wrecking crew Saturday night as the No. 2 ranked Emory University men's soccer team toppled Sewanee, 5-0, in front of the WoodPEC faithful in Atlanta.

Cubeddu became the sixth player in program history, and the first since Patrick Carver in 2005, to score four goals in a single game as he tied the program record in the win.

Following the victory, the Eagles remain perfect on the season with a 10-0 record with this season marking the fifth time in team history an Emory team has started a season at 10-0 or better, joining the 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2008 teams to accomplish the feat. The 10-game winning streak is the first Emory winning streak to reach double-digits since 2014 and is tied for the third-longest streak in team history.

Sewanee, who came into Saturday's match standing at 8-0-2, was held scoreless for only the second time this season and first since the team's opener on August 29th against Montclair State.

Cubeddu opened the scoring in the 22nd minute as he took a sideline past from Adeyemi Oni, dribbled two steps, before sending a long chip over the keeper's head from 28 yards out. Ten minutes later, he doubled the Emory advantage after taking on two Sewanee defenders including a beautiful nutmeg before finding the lower corner.

Junior Logan Steren joined in on the scoring in the 43rd minute when he headed in a Jack Burgess free kick for his third goal of the season.

Cubeddu wasn't finished scoring in the first half as he completed the opening half hat trick with a goal seconds before the halftime break. Cubeddu dribbled around three Tigers, including a superb deek by a sliding defender, allowing him to find the left side netting.

His night concluded in the 70th minute as he found his fourth tally of the game with long-ranging strike to the left post. Cubeddu took the feed just over midfield, bounced around one defender and ripped a shot from 35 yards out for the score. The goal was his 10th of the season while Saturday was his fifth consecutive game with a score.

After turning in a perfect non-conference slate, the Eagles now turn their attention to conference play as Emory travels to No. 24 Carnegie Mellon for the UAA opener next Sunday, October 5 in Pittsburgh.
