The No. 3 ranked Emory University men's soccer team pushed its winning streak to seven games Friday night as Emory defeated The University of the Ozarks, 4-0, in Clarksville, Arkansas.
Emory now stands at 7-0 on the season after three different goal scorers pushed the Emory Eagles past their Ozark Eagles counterparts, who now fall to 1-4-2. The Eagles' newcomers played a key role in Friday night's result as graduate students Ignacio Cubeddu and Jack Burgess combined for three of the four tallies in the victory.
The first half set the tone as the Emory Eagles seized control of the contest with a 10-1 margin in shots across the 45 minutes while scoring three times within the first 30 minutes of the evening.
Cubeddu put Emory on the scoreboard in the 12th minute as he logged an unassisted strike for his fourth goal of the campaign. In the 27th minute, junior Lorenzo Avalos made his presence felt again after returning to the field last weekend from injury with a goal after checking into the game midway through the half. The goal was his first of the season.
Burgess rounded out the scoring as he netted the first two goals of his Emory career, scoring first in the 28th minute off the feed from Prescott Bayman prior to tacking on a second half tally in the 69th minute.
For the night, the Emory Eagles charted a 16-4 advantage in shots and held The Ozarks to just one shot on goal to earn the team's fourth shutouts of the year.
Emory remains in the state of Arkansas for a clash against Hendrix Saturday night in Conway. Kickoff is slated for 8:00 PM ET/7:00 PM CT.
