The No. 3 ranked Emory University men's soccer team ran its winning streak to six games Saturday night as the Eagles defeated in-state rival Berry College, 3-1, at Bob Pearson Field in Mount Berry, Georgia.
The Eagles improve to 6-0 on the season, the team's best start since 2018, and hands the Vikings their first defeat of the 2025 season, falling to 2-1-3.
Emory was the benefactors of two costly penalties by the Vikings as a pair of successful penalty kicks proved to be the difference on Saturday. The game was a physical contest with the teams combining for 23 fouls and eight yellow cards across the 90 minutes.
With the physicality throughout, both offenses were limited with the opportunities that came their way as Emory finished the night with an 11-6 shot advantage and led 7-3 in shots on goal.
Senior Josh Grand was the difference maker once again as he continued his perfect streak at the penalty spot as he moved to 4-for-4 on the season with two more conversions against the Vikings, scoring in the 17th and 48th minutes from the circle. For the year, Grand now leads all Emory players in both goals (4) and assists (7).
Graduate student Ignacio Cubeddu continued his excellent start to his Emory career on Saturday as he netted his third goal for the Blue & Gold with an unassisted strike in the 25th from 20 yards out after battling past his BC defender.
The Eagles' defense once more proved to be a staunch backline as Emory held the Vikings off the scoreboard until the 80th minute when a Jack Raulston goal brought the Eagles' edge to 3-1. Junior Geoffrey Halpern made two saves in the win while the backline has now allowed just three goals across six games.
Emory will continue its road swing next weekend with a trip to Arkansas to face the University of Ozarks Friday night before taking on another SAA foe in Hendrix College on Saturday.
