The Eagles are back for the 2025 season and opened with a 3-0 domination over the LeTourneau University YellowJackets on Friday evening in Atlanta, Georgia.
The No. 5 ranked Eagles opened the Jenny McDowell Invitational with the 3-0 victory and will face St. Catherine University and Mississippi University for Women on Saturday at 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM respectively. Emory was led by 2024 All-American
Kate LaRocco who totaled 14 kills and two aces while fellow senior
Olivia Rabinowitz posted 36 assists and nine digs in the opener. Finally, teammates
Leneia Niko and
Sophie Zerrouki joined forces for three blocks each.
Opening the first set with a 2-2 tie, the Eagles were able to take advantage of errors from the YellowJackets' offense and take a 6-2 lead. After LeTourneau fought back to a 9-6 deficit, Emory posted seven straight points for a 16-6 advantage. LaRocco and senior
Maggie Regan teamed up to help take a 14-point lead. A kill from Rabinowitz ended the first set with a 25-11 line.
LeTourneau fought a tough battle in the start of the second set tying the Eagle six times in the first 14 points. Emory was able to break away and take a 13-8 lead on kills from LaRocco and Niko. The two teams rallied back and forth with the Eagles holding a slight 21-16 advantage before ending with a 4-1 run to take the second set with a 25-17 score.
The third set looked like it was all Emory in the start taking a 10-4 lead on kills form LaRocco and Regan. The YellowJackets were able to comeback and tie the set at 11 apiece before the Eagles broke away to an 18-12 lead on six kills and an attack error from LeTourneau. After Emory bounced to a 24-19 advantage, the YellowJackets scored five straight points to tie the set at 24 apiece. The next few points went back and forth before Emory scored two points in the end to take the third set 28-26.
Emory will return to the court on Saturday, August 30 at 11:00 AM to face St. Catherine University on Court 1.
