Emory University men's basketball associate head coach Jacob Fleegle announced that he will be stepping down from his current position and will be named the next head coach at Messiah University, the team announced on Wednesday.
"I want to thank Coach Zimmerman, our players and our alumni for the past four seasons," said Fleegle. "Emory University is a special place with special people and it has been an honor to be a part of the community here. I can't wait to follow the program from Pennsylvania and watch all of the success that is to come for Coach Z and the team. Emory will always be special to me and I am excited for the next step in my journey. TCC."
Fleegle has been a member of the Emory coaching staff since his arrival in Atlanta in August of 2021. During his time on staff, he has aided the Eagles to an overall record of 75-31, NCAA tournament berths in three of his four seasons including a run to the Elite Eight this past season, and a University Athletic Association championship in 2022.
He was part of the UAA Coaching Staff of the Year during the 2021-22 campaign and across his tenure, he has assisted with the mentorship of two UAA Players of the Year (Matthew Schner in 2022 and Logan Shanahan in 2025), three players that appeared on Bevo Francis Award Watch Lists (Schner, Jair Knight, Ben Pearce), two D3hoops.com All-Americans (Schner, Knight) and four All-Region selections by the NABC and D3hoops.com organizations. Furthermore, the Eagles totaled 10 All-UAA honors in his four seasons with the team and saw three players reach 1,000 career points.
"Emory Basketball is beyond excited for Coach Fleegle, Megan and Lucy as they begin this new chapter in their lives," said Head Coach Jason Zimmerman. "For the last four years, Jacob has played a major role in the growth of our players and our program. We look forward to supporting him as he begins his journey as a head coach and leader of a program. We are forever grateful for everything that he has meant to us and wish Jacob and his family the very best."
Prior to joining the Eagles, Fleegle was a member of the coaching staffs at Juniata College, Carnegie Mellon University and his alma mater, Waynesburg University. As a player, Fleegle was a 1,000-point scorer for the Yellow Jackets and was honored three times on the PAC Academic Honor Roll. In 2015, he was selected to the CoSIDA/Capital One Division III Academic All-District Team.
