The Emory University softball program went 1-1 against the Piedmont Lions on Wednesday afternoon in Demorest, Georgia.

The Eagles now hold a 25-7 record on the season and improve to 7-4 in road games this year.

Game 1: Piedmont 7, Emory 6 (10 innings)

The Lions were able to jump to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first but sophomore Georgia Pineda was able to hold Piedmont scoreless for the next few innings of work. The Eagles answered in the top of the fourth with an RBI single from junior Ella Hoyle to tie the game at one piece.

The game was scoreless from both teams until the top of the eighth inning when the Eagles jumped to a 3-1 lead on an RBI double from sophomore Grace Cooper and a sacrifice fly from sophomore Ella Janish. Piedmont scored two runs in the bottom of the inning sending the game into the ninth inning.

Sophomore Ellie Zerr started the scoring in the top of the ninth with an RBI single followed by freshman Megan Sutton reaching on an error from the Lions' defense to take a 5-3 lead but Piedmont was able to score two more runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game again.

Zerr added another RBI to her tally in the top of the 10th inning but the Lions tacked on two runs in the bottom of the inning on a single and fly out to walk off the game and clinch the win.

Game 2: Emory 12, Piedmont 2 (6 innings)

Chu kicked off the first inning of game two with a single followed by an RBI double from Zerr for an early 1-0 lead. Zerr was later brought in on a single from sophomore Sonia Klein for Emory's second run of the game. The Lions added a run in the bottom half of the inning but Pineda was once again able to get out of a jam.

The Eagles added two more runs in the top of the second inning on RBI singles from freshman Addison Kwong and Hoyle to give Emory a 4-1 lead. Once again, Piedmont answered in the bottom half of the inning with a bunt single to cut into the Eagles' lead.

Emory went on a major scoring run in the top of the third inning to take their biggest lead of the day over the Lions. Sophomore Lillian Ware opened the inning with a single before Piedmont's defense got two quick outs. A walk to freshman Shivani Nangia gave the Eagles two runners on base before a double and single from Kwong and Chu gave Emory a 6-2 lead. The duo later scored after taking advantage of an error from the Lions before an RBI single from Hoyle finished the two-out rally giving the Eagles a 9-2 advantage.

The game was scoreless again until the top of the sixth inning with the Eagles improving their lead to 12-2 two on a double from Janish and two wild pitches. The Lions were unable to score in the bottom of the sixth clinching the win for Emory.
