The Emory University softball program opened its series against the NYU Violets on Friday afternoon opening with an 8-0 win.
The Eagles improve to 26-7 on the season and boast a 9-4 record in conference play so far. Sophomore
Lexi Bach posted one of her best outings of the season tossing a complete game allowing just three hits without a run.
After a 1-2-3 inning from Bach in the top of the first, the Eagles struck early in the bottom half of the inning to take a 1-0 lead. Junior
Ashley Chu led off with a double followed by an RBI double from teammate
Ella Hoyle for the first run of the game.
The Violets were able to get two base runners in the top of the second inning but Bach continued her dominance in the circle stranding the runners to get out of the inning.
Emory tacked on six more runs in the bottom of the second inning on six hits and capitalizing on two errors from NYU. Chu and Hoyle both recorded RBI singles in the inning followed by more RBI singles from teammates
Lillian Ware and
Megan Sutton to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead.
Both teams were scoreless for the next four innings with Bach only allowing two more hits later in the fifth and sixth innings. Hoyle started the bottom of the sixth with a walk before sophomore
Georgia Pineda entered the game as a pinch runner. Sophomore
Ellie Zerr followed with a single to advance Pineda. Fellow sophomore
Sonia Klein ended the game with an RBI double to score Pineda and clinch the win in six innings.
The Eagles and Violets will face each other again tomorrow, April 26 in a doubleheader to close the series beginning at 12:00 PM.
