Softball Splits Saturday Doubleheader with Chicago

The Emory University softball program concluded its series against the Chicago Maroons on Saturday afternoon splitting a doubleheader in Chicago, Illinois.
 
The Eagles hold a 24-6 record on the season following Saturday's games and sit 8-4 in conference play.
 
Game 1: Emory 8, Chicago 2
 
The first few innings were scoreless in game one before Emory jumped on a major scoring rally in the top of the second. After the Eagles opened with a single and a double, sophomore Lillian Ware drove a bases clearing double to left field to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead followed by a single from freshman Rylie Ballog for Emory's third run.
 
Junior Ashley Chu followed with an RBI infield single before freshman Addison Kwong gave the Eagles a 6-0 lead with a two-run homer to center field, her first of the season. The Maroons tacked on their first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning taking advantage of an error from Emory's defense.
 
In the top of the fifth inning, Ware brought in her third run of the game with a two out homerun to left field for a 7-0 lead after four and a half innings of work. Later in the top of the seventh, Ballog brought in the eighth run of the game with an RBI single.
 
The Maroons homered in the bottom of the seventh inning but sophomore Georgia Pineda was able to get out of the inning and took the win in game one.
 
Game 2: Chicago 4, Emory 2
 
The Eagles struck first in the first inning following a leadoff single from Chu. With two outs, sophomore Ellie Zerr singled to the game to bring Chu home for a 1-0 lead. Chicago answered in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single of their own to tie the game at one apiece.
 
The game was scoreless until the top of the sixth inning with junior Ella Hoyle leading off the inning with a solo home run to left center to give Emory a 2-1 lead. The Maroons went on a scoring run in the bottom of the sixth scoring three runs on three hits and two errors to hold a 4-2 lead and clinch the win after a scoreless seventh from the Eagles.
 
The Eagles will travel to Demorest, Georgia on Wednesday, April 16 to face the Piedmont Lions in a make-up doubleheader beginning at 1:00 PM.
