The No. 3 ranked Emory University women's tennis team remained unbeaten at home as the Eagles defeated No. 6 ranked Carnegie Mellon University, 5-2, in the first of three straight matches against University Athletic Association foes in Atlanta.
Hosting a mini-UAA round robin on campus this weekend, the Eagles improved to 10-2 with their Friday afternoon win over the Tartans. Emory moved to 4-0 on its home courts while the loss was Carnegie Mellon's first in 16 matches this year.
As has been the case for most of the spring, the Eagles did not flinch during the doubles portion of the afternoon, sweeping all three matches to claim the doubles point.
Emory's top tandem in juniors Izzy Antanavicius and Iris Berman remained perfect this spring as they won their 11th straight match to improve to 11-0 with a 6-3 decision at the No. 1 line. They now stand at an impressive 17-1 this season.
At the No. 3 spot, senior Eliza McPherron and sophomore Yanire Marte also improved to 11-0 with a matching 6-3 result. For the season, the duo now owns a 14-4 overall record.
The doubles sweep concluded with the most dominant result on court two as junior Emily Kantrovitz and graduate student Dakota Fordham blanked their Tartan counterparts by a 6-0 margin.
In singles play, Emory closed out the win by taking four of the six courts.
Notching wins on the afternoon were Kantrovitz on court one (6-0, 6-2), Berman on court three (6-2, 6-0), Marte on court four (7-5, 6-3) and McPherron on court five (6-0, 1-6, 6-4).
Next up for the Eagles will be a rematch with No. 1 Chicago on Saturday. Action from the WoodPEC courts is set to get underway at 10:00 AM.
