Box Score The Emory University women's basketball program reached the 100-point mark for the third time this season, the first time in program history reaching on three occasions, while defeating the Huntingdon Hawks, 102-55, in Montgomery, Alabama.
The No. 8 ranked Eagles improve to 9-0 on the season and played in their last game before the new year. Emory saw five players reach double-digit points including senior
Chloe Kreusser who posted a career-high 17 points while junior
Riley Allen reached a career-high 11 rebounds in the matchup.
After opening with a 2-1 lead, the Eagles went on a 13-0 run in just under three minutes to claim a 14-point lead. Kreusser and teammate
Mary Mullinax continued their offensive momentum pushing Emory to a 29-11 advantage at the end of the first 10 minutes.
The Eagles opened the first four minutes of the second half with eight points but the Hawks were right behind fighting back to a 37-22 deficit. Free throws from senior
Lily Kennedy and a layup from Kreusser gave Emory a 23-point lead, the biggest of the game thus far. Freshman
Tatum Olson increased that lead to 25 points with 53 seconds on the clock sending the Eagles into halftime with a 49-24 advantage.
Huntingdon opened scoring in the third quarter but were held scoreless until the 5:59 mark while Emory went on an 8-0 run pushing the team to a 31-point lead. Once again, Mullinax and Kreusser teamed up to help the Eagles advance to a 71-35 score with just over two minutes in the third quarter despite the Hawks battling to cut into the lead.
Emory outscored Huntingdon 28-12 in the fourth quarter highlighted by an offensive breakthrough from Olson. After holding an 84-47 lead with 6:08 remaining in the game, the Hawks' defense kept the Eagles to just four points in two minutes. Riley Allen and sophomore
Sydney Cummings to reach the 100 point mark. The game ended with a layup from freshman
Serene Exalant with a 102-55 score.
The Eagles will take a break for the semester before traveling to face the Lynchburg Hornets on Saturday, January 3
rd in Lynchburg, Virginia.
