Three members of the Emory University women's soccer team were honored Thursday afternoon as they were named All-Americans by the United Soccer Coaches Association in conjunction with the final rounds of the NCAA Championships in Salem, Virginia.
Senior
Michelle Davidson and junior
Kaitlyn Nimmer were tabbed to the organization's First Team with senior
Sophia Garcia landing a spot on the Third Team. For Nimmer, she becomes the sixth player in program history to be a multi-time All-American while this is the first career honor for both Davidson and Garcia. Overall, the trio brings Emory's All-America total to 15 individuals in women's soccer history. This is the first season in Emory women's soccer history with more than two All-Americans.
Nimmer, a Fourth Team selection as a sophomore, makes a return appearance on the All-America list following another stellar campaign for the Eagles. The All-Region and All-UAA First Team selection currently stands fourth on the Emory all-time single season list with 36 points, setting career highs with 13 goals and 10 assists.
Davidson and Garcia have propelled the Eagles to one of the nation's strongest defenses, setting a program record with 17 shutouts while holding opponents to just seven goals in 22 games. Garcia is among the Division III leaders in shutouts, goals-against average and save percentage, and established team records in both wins and clean sheets this season. Davidson has led the Eagles in minutes played for the second straight season, anchoring the defense to a 0.318 GAA - the seventh-lowest mark in the nation and the second-lowest total in team history. She's added career best six points on offense with two goals and two assists. Davidson was tabbed the UAA's Defensive Player of the Year, as well as a First Team All-UAA and All-Region pick earlier this season whereas Garcia made her first appearance on both the All-UAA and All-Region First Teams.
The Eagles make their second straight appearance in the national semifinals on Thursday, December 4th, taking on Tufts University at 6:30 PM for a berth in the national championship.
